Maqam HistoryBuilt Through Service

Maqam Travels was born from a sincere intention to improve the way pilgrims are served on their journey to the Holy Lands. From a heartfelt idea in Makkah to a trusted Hajj and Umrah company in Uganda, our story is built on faith, service, sacrifice, and the desire to guide pilgrims with care.

Where It Began

In July 2022, while in Makkah, Sheikh Shafik Mafo shared an idea with a close friend, who would later become part of the Maqam team. After witnessing and experiencing poor service in the pilgrimage journey, they asked themselves a powerful question:

"Why don't we create a Hajj and Umrah company that serves pilgrims better?"

The idea was welcomed with hope and sincerity. Together, they made dua for it at the Multazam, asking Allah to bless the vision and make it beneficial for the Muslim community.

Official Launch

The journey officially began in a big single room at AAA Complex in Kisaasi, along Bukoto-Kisaasi Road. It was here that Sheikh Shafik Mafo, together with Sheikh Mahmoud Ssekimwanyi, began laying the foundation for what was then known as Multazam Travels.

In October 2022, the company was officially launched at the office premises. Sheikhs, friends, family, and well-wishers gathered to witness the beginning of this new journey. The chief guest was Sheikh Habib Luswabi.

The First Journey

In December 2022, Multazam Travels organized its first Umrah journey. The group was led by Sheikh Shafik Mafo and Sheikh Mahmoud Ssekimwanyi, with a total of 50 pilgrims.

This first journey became a major milestone. It proved that the vision was possible and that pilgrims could be served with better guidance, organization, and spiritual care.

The First Hajj

In June 2023, Sheikh Shafik Mafo and Sheikh Mahmoud Ssekimwanyi led the company's first Hajj group, also with 50 pilgrims.

The journey was successful and became another important foundation in the company's growth. It strengthened the team's experience, confidence, and commitment to serving pilgrims on the most important journey of their lives.

From Multazam to Maqam

In December 2023, the company rebranded from Multazam Travels to Maqam Travels.

Around this time, Sheikh Mahmoud Ssekimwanyi peacefully left the company and began his own journey. We appreciate the role he played in the early foundation of the company, and we pray that Allah places barakah in his path.

The rebrand marked a new chapter, one built on the same purpose, but with a wider vision for service, growth, and excellence.

The Maqam Era

Since becoming Maqam Travels, the company has continued to grow and introduce new ideas that have shaped not only Maqam itself, but also the wider Hajj and Umrah travel industry in Uganda.

From digital transformation to improved pilgrim care, awareness campaigns, early preparation programs, better communication systems, and spiritually guided travel experiences, Maqam has remained committed to making every journey more organized, meaningful, and reliable.
